Join us for an interesting discussion with Ed Perez, formerly a senior technical illustrator at BAE Systems, one of the world's largest defense contractors. We'll discuss the work of technical illustrators, the changes impacting the discipline, and the role of metadata and taxonomy in the creation of modern technical illustrations. Ed will discuss his passion for solving problems (inventing solutions) and the role that technical illustrations play.
Additionally, we will discuss with Ed his passion for creating "patent graphics" (a type of illustration used to convey information to gain approval for patents from the US Patent and Trademark office). Ed has designed, illustrated, and is attempting patent an innovative invention — a green energy solution that may someday allow us to no longer rely on the way we currently (inefficiently and dangerously) produce wind energy. Ed will show the illustration he made and the resulting 3D-printed image (a tangible, real-world model).
Ed will also answer questions from (and provide advice to) technical communicators interested in a career in technical illustration.
