About this talk

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has accelerated the development of algorithms associated with pattern recognition. As a result, there has been a proliferation in the number of companies providing object recognition, biometrics, Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and video analytics algorithms. In the case of facial recognition, in 2017, the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) 1:1 Facial Recognition Technology Evaluation (FRTE) received just six submissions for evaluation, whereas this number grew to 149 for the year 2023 alone. FRTE assesses the accuracy and speed of the submitted algorithms. However, the rankings are constantly in flux, and the issue of bias in AI highlights the fact that more than just accuracy and speed should be taken into account when selecting a facial recognition algorithm provider. In this webinar, Evan Bays of IDEMIA National Security Solutions discusses six key areas associated with the pursuit of high-performing, fair, and robust facial recognition algorithms, based on risks identified in NIST’s AI Risk Management Framework.
