One day, as a systems admin, I was asked to just “deal with” the web application firewall, and now — six years, five countries and 18,000 miles later — I’m in the C-suite. Full disclosure: I’m a mediocre systems admin, an okay engineer, an acceptable architect and a reasonably good InfoSec officer.
