In May of this year, the US Securities and Exchange Commission levied a fine for the first time against a company for misrepresenting ESG principles for mutual funds it manages. As fund managers continue to leverage ESG factors to assess investment opportunities, concerns over greenwashing in corporate disclosures will continue to grow. For fund managers, it’s never been more important to proactively evaluate the authenticity of the ESG claims of each investment opportunity. As we transition to a green economy, funds will require managers to take an active role in keeping each organisation to account for achieving their impact objectives.
