Streamlined PRI reporting in 2025 - what signatories need to know

US policy in 2025 and implications for investors

The PRI invites signatories to join drop-in and feedback sessions to learn more about the future of its emerging and expanding stewardship initiative – the Collaborative Sovereign Engagement on Climate Change.

This initiative was launched as a proof-of-concept pilot in 2022 as has been engaging in the Australian system for two years with the participation of 27 signatories from across the Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America.

The initiative enables investors to work collaboratively to support governments to take all possible steps to mitigate climate change consistent with their commitment to the goals of the Paris Agreement, in line with investors’ fiduciary duty to mitigate financial risk and maximize long-term value of assets.

Following the initial success of the pilot, the PRI is now preparing for an initial expansion of the initiative in 2025.

Through these sessions signatories will get further insight into:
- The practice of sovereign engagement
- The Australian engagement
- The investor experience in the initiative
- How the PRI is approaching new market selection
- How the PRI is planning to structure the expanded initiative
- When and how signatories can apply to join

Signatories will have an opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions about the PRI’s plans and approach to market selection ahead of details being confirmed in Q1 2025.

Call for Policy Action: Building Investor Momentum for a Whole-of-Government Approach to Climate Change

Aligning financial flows with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) is crucial for addressing harmful financial practices while upscaling finance that positively impacts nature and biodiversity. Resource mobilization for the GBF involves both public and private sector contributions, with the upcoming COP16 negotiations playing a pivotal role in defining the monitoring framework for the resource mobilization indicator (Indicator D3). This framework will assess the effectiveness of private sector support for biodiversity, ensuring alignment with the GBF’s objectives and contributing to global conservation efforts.

Effective monitoring and alignment of financial flows require a clear understanding of the definitions, frameworks, and practices that qualify as biodiversity finance. This webinar will present two key papers: the UNEP FI and Finance for Biodiversity Foundation’s (FfB) nature-positive paper and the EU Business & Biodiversity Platform’s paper on business models and investment for nature. Additionally, the webinar will provide insights into what to expect at COP16 in Cali, Colombia, and will feature a panel discussion on how financial institutions can enhance and track positive impact finance.

Proxy season 2024: Voting trends and insights for 2025

Private sector management of human rights and social issues drive financial risks and opportunities. For example, companies can reduce their operational and legal costs by avoiding community conflicts and appropriately managing private data. They can improve company performance through diversity and inclusion measures and promote satisfaction in the workplace. Investors are also exposed to systemic risks as widening economic inequality has led to more volatile economic conditions and political polarisation, affecting global markets. Investors need meaningful data to manage these risks and opportunities. The objective of the Taskforce on Inequality and Social-related Financial Disclosures (TISFD) is to respond to this market demand and to develop a global framework for inequality and social-related issues, followed by recommendations on financial disclosures for companies and investors to communicate on impacts, dependencies, risks, and opportunities. In this webinar the steering committee working to launch TISFD in September will provide an update on:

- Why this multi-stakeholder initiative was initiated and what it is looking to achieve;
- The proposed governance structure, scope, and mandate;
- Next steps leading up to the launch of the Taskforce in September; and
- The current consultation process and other ways to engage with TISFD

The TISFD update will be followed by a panel discussion with organisations on the steering committee and a Q&A section with the audience.

Introduction to the TISFD: What are the goals, and how can investors contribute?

At a time of increasing publicity about the financial sector's responsibilities in relation to the impacts of their investments, especially concerning impacts on people and the planet, two reports have been recently published to assist investors. The PRI's report “Human Rights and Social Issues: Insights from the 2023 Reporting Cycle” provides analysis of investor practice on human rights based on the PRI’s reporting framework. The “Report of the UN Working Group on business and human rights on Investors, ESG and Human Rights (A/HRC/56/55)” (https://www.ohchr.org/en/documents/thematic-reports/ahrc5655-investors-environmental-social-and-governance-approaches-and) analyses the existing practices of investors who are using ESG and sustainability approaches and indicates what needs to be done to ensure that investors are acting consistently with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in relation to impacts on people and the planet.

During this webinar, the PRI will be joined by the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights and institutional investors to discuss market trends, insights from practitioners on best practice and UN recommendations for improved implementation of respect for human rights.
