Proxy season 2024: Voting trends and insights for 2025

Corporate management of human rights and social issues drive financial risks and opportunities. For example, companies can reduce their operational and legal costs by avoiding community conflicts and appropriately managing private data. They can improve company performance through diversity and inclusion measures and promote satisfaction in the workplace. Investors are also exposed to systemic risks as widening economic inequality has led to more volatile economic conditions and political polarisation, affecting global markets. Investors need meaningful data to manage these risks and opportunities. The objective of the Taskforce on Inequality and Social-related Financial Disclosures (TISFD) is to respond to this market demand and to develop a global framework for inequality and social-related issues, followed by recommendations on financial disclosures for companies and investors to communicate on impacts, dependencies, risks, and opportunities. In this webinar the steering committee working to launch TISFD in September will provide an update on:

- Why this multi-stakeholder initiative was initiated and what it is looking to achieve;
- The proposed governance structure, scope, and mandate;
- Next steps leading up to the launch of the Taskforce in September; and
- The current consultation process and other ways to engage with TISFD

The TISFD update will be followed by a panel discussion with organisations on the steering committee and a Q&A section with the audience.

Introduction to the TISFD: What are the goals, and how can investors contribute?

At a time of increasing publicity about the financial sector's responsibilities in relation to the impacts of their investments, especially concerning impacts on people and the planet, two reports are being published to assist investors. The PRI's report “Human Rights and Social Issues: Insights from the 2023 Reporting Cycle” will provide analysis of investor practice on human rights based on the PRI’s reporting framework. The “Report of the UN Working Group on business and human rights on Investors, ESG and Human Rights (A/HRC/56/55)” (https://www.ohchr.org/en/documents/thematic-reports/ahrc5655-investors-environmental-social-and-governance-approaches-and) will analyse the existing practices of investors who are using ESG and sustainability approaches and indicates what needs to be done to ensure that investors are acting consistently with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in relation to impacts on people and the planet.

During this webinar, the PRI will be joined by the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights and institutional investors to discuss market trends, insights from practitioners on best practice and UN recommendations for improved implementation of respect for human rights.

Investors and human rights: Ways forward in a time of complexity

In the second of the IPR/PRI Quarterly Briefing series for 2024, expert panellists will assess the latest developments in climate policy during the quarter. Energy, transition, land use and nature progress will be explored against the flagship IPR 1.8C Forecast Policy Scenario (FPS).

IPR Quarterly Briefing: Global climate policy developments - Quarter 2

This session will introduce the PRI’s minimum requirements for investor signatories reporting in 2024. Attendees will receive an overview of the minimum requirements and how they can meet them, while our asset owner guidance senior specialist will provide an insight into robust practices for developing and maintaining a responsible investment policy. Investing for nature: building investor action on biodiversity loss

PRI's Policy Work and IFRS Sustainability Standards in Focus

PRI reporting in 2024 – what signatories need to know

This webinar will offer insights into the upcoming UN Biodiversity Conference COP16, scheduled for October 2024 in Cali, Colombia. It will delve into the preparations made by governments and private finance sectors to effectively translate their aspirations into actionable plans for implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). This landmark agreement was adopted by 196 parties at the UN Biodiversity Conference COP15 in December 2022, to guide global action on biodiversity and nature. It provides a framework for bold action and policy alignment across economic sectors, with a clear call to align public and private financial flows with its mission of halting and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030.

During the webinar, you will hear more on the preparation of COP16 as we delve into the process of countries updating their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) following the adoption of the GBF. Additionally, we'll facilitate discussions among representatives of financial institutions, exploring how to engage with governments on the GBF implementation and their needs in creating an enabling policy environment to reduce negative impact and increase positive impact on biodiversity through investments.

Finance and the Global Biodiversity Framework: navigating the road to COP16

In the first of the joint IPR/PRI Quarterly Briefing series for 2024, expert panelists will assess the latest analysis from IPR of global policy implementation post the COP28 Stocktake, through to end Q1 2024, against the flagship 1.8C Forecast Policy Scenario & 1.5C Required Policy Scenarios.

Implications of an acceleration in policy commitments on energy, transition, land use & climate finance will be highlighted in this comprehensive overview for investors. IPR Quarterly Briefing: Transition Since Dubai - Progress post the COP Stocktake

The Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance recently published a Call to Action (https://www.unepfi.org/themes/nzaoa-call-to-action-to-the-asset-management-industry/) addressed to the asset manager community relating to integration of systemic climate stewardship principles. This Call to Action references best practices published in the last two years by the Alliance, relating to asset owner engagement of asset managers on proxy voting, engagement, and lobbying. Increased demands for transparency, new asset owner expectations and accusations of greenwashing have impacted due diligence, manager selection, and reporting. This webinar will explore key topics including RFP and DDQ design, critical assessment questions for asset owners and methods for verifying and interpreting investment manager responses. The development of the EU sustainable finance framework over the past five years is a significant achievement and an integral part of the EU Green Deal. Responsible investors have welcomed this progress but substantial implementation challenges have arisen from the speed, complexity and sequencing of the various measures. Further, the EU’s legislative reforms have largely focused on driving sustainable capital allocation via improved corporate and investor disclosure, overlooking other levers that investors have, or the barriers that they face.

PRI’s upcoming report – a ‘2030 EU Policy Roadmap’ – sets out the recommendations needed to address these challenges and accelerate private investment to support the economic transition. Ahead of upcoming European elections, this launch event is an opportunity to learn more about PRI’s report and to discuss the recommendations with investors, policy makers and civil society representatives.

PRI 2030 EU Policy Roadmap

In this webinar we will explore screening approaches and how to create effective exclusion criteria. The discussion will also highlight the pros and cons of climate screening. Participants will gain an understanding of how diverse approaches to ESG screening are applied in live portfolios.
