For decades, the European geopolitical landscape had been relatively peaceful – that is, until Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This conflict, alongside the broader backdrop of geopolitical instability, has forced European NATO members to focus on rebuilding their defence capabilities.
This has been something of a rude awakening – despite NATO’s guideline that its members should spend at least 2% of their respective GDPs on defence, many countries in Europe have been falling short. Given the current situation, European NATO members are having to reconsider this position and invest in defence at levels not seen since the end of the Cold War.
In our latest webinar, we’ll be looking at how the rebuild of Europe’s defence sector presents a unique opportunity to investors. Last year, HANetf launched Future of Defence UCITS ETF (NATO), which provides exposure to NATO and NATO+ ally defence and cyber defence spending.
We’ll be joined by renowned historian and defence expert Professor Phillips O’Brien, Head of the School of International Relations and Professor of Strategic Studies at the University of St Andrews. Professor O'Brien's work covers grand strategy and defence policy. He has been especially active as an analyst and commentator during the latest phase of the Russo-Ukraine War, collaborating with scholars and analysts from Ukraine, Europe, and the United States to dissect the lessons of the war. His insights have been regularly published in The Atlantic, The Times, The Spectator, The Telegraph, and other major newspapers and journals. Additionally, he has appeared on media outlets in over 15 countries, including MSNBC, CNN, NPR, BBC, DW, and L’Express.
We’ll also be joined by Tom Bailey, Head of ETF Research at HANetf, to take a closer look at the opportunity for investors.
