About this talk

An organization’s workforce often bears the brunt of business uncertainty in the current global economic environment. From cost reductions leading to labor layoffs, coupled with the shift to hybrid work situations and the cost-of-living crisis, individuals are often struggling with financial and lifestyle changes that may lead to perceptions of insecurity at work and home. These are conditions where insider threats may emerge. Threats from the organization’s workforce should not be ignored as they can be damaging. The challenge is that there is no single profile for an insider threat. It may come from employees who want to cause intentional or significant harm to an organization. Insiders may be busy staff who fall for a phishing email. It may even be someone who is working a side hustle and multitasking. They do have one thing in common: these individuals already have legitimate access and don’t need to find clever ways to penetrate the network. Insiders know where valuable data and systems reside, and how to gain access and circumvent controls. Solutions like unified defense security information and event management (SIEM) and user and entity behavior analytics (UEBA) capabilities can detect abnormal behavior observed from potential insider activity indicating malicious intent. Find out how understanding insider threats and leveraging insider threat models can help you build a strategy to combat insider threats.
